Overview

Semax is a synthetic heptapeptide analogue of the ACTH(4-10) fragment, modified so that it carries no hormonal activity of its own. Developed in Russia, it is supplied as a lyophilised powder in a sealed vial for laboratory and in-vitro research.

Research Focus

Semax has been studied extensively in Russia since the 1980s. Research indicates it influences expression of BDNF and NGF — two neurotrophic factors involved in neuronal growth and survival. Published studies have examined its effects on cognition, attention and memory, its neuroprotective activity in models of cerebral ischaemia, and its use in stroke recovery, where it has been applied clinically in Russia.
