Overview

Glutathione is a tripeptide of glutamate, cysteine and glycine, and the body's principal intracellular antioxidant — which is why it is commonly called the master antioxidant. It is supplied as a lyophilised powder in a sealed vial for laboratory and in-vitro research.

Research Focus

Glutathione sits at the centre of cellular redox biology. Published research has examined its scavenging of free radicals and role in oxidative stress; phase II detoxification, where it conjugates to toxins to make them water-soluble for excretion; maintenance of cellular redox balance; and skin pigmentation, where studies have examined its effect on melanin synthesis.

Research on glutathione includes both human studies and animal models.
